Cyberpunk 2077 Mulitplayer is a “Standalone Product”

Slowly but surely more information regarding Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer will be in the hands of the consumer.

Cyberpunk 2077 is amongst the most anticipated releases this year. After multiple delays, we are waiting for the game to be released on December 10; however, the release of the multiplayer portion is still in question. Many are curious as to what the multiplayer will entail and when it will be released.

While little information has been given about the multiplayer, we do know from their earnings report earlier this year that microtransactions will be a part of the online service.  We also know that it is a huge undertaking. Recently, Adam Kiciński, President and Joint CEO of CD Projekt Red, announced during CD Projekt Red’s Q3 earnings call that the multiplayer side of Cyberpunk is considered “a separate dedicated production, a big production.” He goes on to discuss that the multiplayer will take place within “the universe of Cyberpunk” and is “related to the concept of single player Cyberpunk.” With this information, it seems that Cyberpunks multiplayer will be similar to GTA online, where there is an independent ecosystem within the world created by the developers. Knowing that the production of Cyberpunk’s online portion is so massive is promising for the content we will get with its release.

Unfortunately, we should not expect to see the multiplayer portion of Cyberpunk 2077 until after 2021 and likely will not hear much more about it until early next year. Kiciński stated in the most recent earnings call that information regarding multiplayer is expected to come after Q1 2021, which is when he says the company will “update our strategy.”

With reports that there is 175 plus hours of content within Cyberpunk 2077, there is enough to do throughout Night City to hold us over until the multiplayer is released sometime after 2021.
