Tom Holland has graced us with the first looks at the live action Nathan Drake.

Numerous movies are beginning to start production again and the upcoming Uncharted movie is no exception. With first looks at the movie’s set appearing on twitter and Instagram, we also got a first look of the protagonist Nathan Drake, portrayed by Tom Holland. Tom Holland released a tweet and Instagram post with the image above and captioned “It’s nice to meet you, I’m Nate. #Uncharted.” With this first look at his character, the excitement for another video game-based movie is growing. Coming off the heels of 2020’s Sonic the Hedgehog and 2019’s Pokémon Detective Pikachu, the expectations are set high.
Tom Holland is sure to do a phenomenal job as the protagonist and treasure hunter and set, what is hopeful to be, the film series off in the right direction. However, looking at the image of Tom Holland as the famed treasure hunter feels a bit off. With the movie being set as a prequel to the games, having a younger individual play the role of Nathan Drake is crucial but Tom Holland’s loveable baby face makes for an off-kilter tone. With Tom Hollands break out role being “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spiderman,” who is a high schooler, you would expect a slightly more playful and later adolescent role. While the role of Nathan Drake will require him to portray himself slightly more grown up, I do feel there is potential for Tom Holland to put his mark on the video game-adaptation genre and allow for him to break out of his expected roles.
The Uncharted film is expected to have theatrical release on July 16, 2021 in the United States. What are your thoughts on Tom Holland’s new role?
